Datcom Runs the Distance

Four fast-paced staff from Lincolnshire-based IT specialists Datcom took part in the Loughborough Half Marathon Team Relay Challenge to raise money for the homeless of Grantham.

Hannah Birdsall, Hannah Sang, Andy Maddison and Harry Gresham each volunteered to run a leg in the 13.1-mile race on Sunday (2nd April) in aid of homeless charity Grantham Passage.

Out of the 16 teams that took part in the relay, Datcom came sixth with a finishing time of one hour and 56 minutes.

This is the first of many fundraising activities Datcom is taking part in this year as they try and hit a target of £2,000. However, the relay team are no strangers to long-distance running.

Hannah Birdsall, Marketing Executive at Datcom, said: “I’ve previously run a marathon but we all did a little bit of training before this one. What we found was normal road running is very different to the route of the half marathon which was quite hilly!”

Account Manager Andy Maddison ran the second leg of the relay and beat his personal best time over 5km by four minutes. Datcom has nominated Grantham Passage as its charity of the year. The team is already planning to take part in further challenges during 2017 to raise even more. Among these events is a 24-hour video gaming marathon, scheduled for May.
